Metformin or not

Should Metformin remain as the first line agent for oral treatment of T2DM?

NYTimes piece sheds some light on how Metformin is being used and to a certain extent touted as an anti-aging agent? The journal itself does not endorse the view.

Mankind is always trying to slow the aging process and delay the inevitable which is death but is metformin one such agent that can help us do that?

My view is : likely not...

On the other hand, the day is not far when Metform will likely be dethroned as the first agent in the treatment of T2 DM and will most certainly be replaced by SGLT-2i (Farxiga/Jardiance) or GLP-1a (Ozempic/Mounjaro) or perhaps both.

Should metformin remain the first-line therapy for treatment of type 2 diabetes?
